February 2006: La Revue du Vin de France discovers that there is more to Limoux - and Rives-Blanques - than Blanquette

France's leading wine magazine, read by wine buffs and professionals alike, discovered that there is more to Limoux than its famous sparkling wine, Blanquette de Limoux. The timing of the article is perfect for an appellation which for the first time ever will present itself as a unified force at the big trade wine fair in Montpellier in February, Vinisud. And Chateau Rives-Blanques is delighted to have been discovered as a 'discovery' by this august publication.

'Located at the tip of Languedoc between the foothills of the Pyrenees and the South West of the Aude, its completely unique position allows a mix of Mediterranean and Atlantic influences ... making it really suitable for red wines, but particularly so for whites."

La Revue du Vin de France went on to list the main "engines" of the appellation. They were the two giant Cooperatives of the appellation; the two big, established Negociants Guinot and Antech; and two family-run independent vineyards: Domaine Martinolles and Chateau Rives-Blanques.

"Situated on a plateau dominating the Aude valley (350 m) , Chateau Rives-Blanques shows just how good this area is, where the 'oceanique' influences begin. Their AOC Limoux's are unusually expressive, giving unusual justice to chenin and mauzac, which like their chardonnay are all big-bodied with a penetrating taste."
